FEATURED STORY
Pickleball’s Growth in 6 Numbers
Recent research says pickleball’s global market will be worth $4.4 BILLION by 2033.
So how will it get to such a staggeringly-large value? We explain here — but it’s not just about people swinging paddles.
Brands, fitness centers, and even local governments are pouring money into the sport. Pickleball shoes alone amount to 39.3% of the current market.
But the research also uncovered some interesting figures that we couldn’t help but share:
18-34: That's the age group with the largest demographic, making up 28.8% of all pickleball players and directly contradictory to the notion that most pickleball players are over the age of 50.
22.6%: The number representing the highest amount of pickleball players per region in the United States, belonging to South Atlantic Region, home to the most players in the nation.
130: Number of new, public pickleball locations built per month across the US.
50,000: Number of attendees at the 2023 Nationals event.
50,003: Total number of publicly-accessible courts in the US as of 2024.

What You Need to Know About Spin
Spin matters, but only once you've mastered basic technique. Otherwise, you won’t have any hope of controlling it.
But if you’re ready to use spin effectively, here’s some advice to bring with you to the court:
Use Topspin For Offense
In rallies, adding topspin to your groundstrokes or drives makes the ball dip faster, forcing your opponent to either back up or risk popping the ball up—setting you up for a putaway.
Slice for Defensive Balls
It’s perfect for returns and third-shot drops. The underspin keeps the ball low, making it difficult for your opponent to execute an aggressive attack.
Sidespin as a Change-up
Sidespin is best used sparingly. Think of it as your curveball. It’s harder to control and should be used as a strategic surprise, not a go-to.
These are somewhat generalized, though. Find our full guide to spin here.

Over the past week, the relief effort has transformed the courts into a well-oiled operation, providing a glimpse of the power of sport communities when they rally together. Learn how you can help.
Meanwhile: back in Florida, at least some pickleballers are trying to stay positive.
→ One local was interviewed by CNN, and when asked what valuables she’d bring with her during evacuation…well, take a guess as to what she said.
