PICKLEBALLERS
Genie Bouchard got thrown into the pickleball deep end. Now she’s a top 10 singles player.
Genie Bouchard is one of the most recognizable athletes of her generation — a former world No. 5 tennis player, Wimbledon finalist and one of the biggest tennis stars to ever come out of Canada.
From growing up in Montreal to moving to Florida at age 12 to chase tennis full time, Genie’s story is all sacrifice, pressure and competing on the biggest stages in the world. In this week’s episode of Pickleballers, she sits down with Roscoe and Jared to talk about her journey in the tennis world and why she ultimately signed with the PPA Tour to play pro pickleball.
She may have started 0–9 in her first few tournaments, but now she’s gone from “tennis star trying pickleball” to a legit threat making finals and beating top players.
PICKLEBALLERS DOORDASH & JOOLA GIVEAWAY: Each week we’re doing a Pickleballers giveaway to celebrate the latest episode. This week we are giving away a $500 DoorDash gift card & a JOOLA pickleball paddle. Enter here!
FEATURED STORY
Which paddle brands won the most medals this season? We crunched the numbers
Each year the number of brands in the pickleball paddle space increases, and 2025 was no different. RPM, Luzz, NOX, Warping Point ... the list of newcomers goes on, and many of those new brands made great paddles this year.
But the big dogs remained the big dogs at the pro level, with brands like JOOLA, Paddletek and Franklin dominating on the PPA Tour in terms of medals won.
We looked through the results from the 17 PPA Tour events in the U.S. in 2025 (we excluded the wooden paddle tournament for this exercise), and counted how many medals were won by each brand. There were 408 medals total across all divisions (24 each tournament).
Almost 1/3 of those medals were won by a player using a JOOLA paddle, and another 40% were won by players using Paddletek or Franklin.
We know what you’re thinking — ‘Duh, Anna Leigh Waters and Ben Johns won all the medals for Paddletek and JOOLA.’
But that’s not entirely the case. Both companies benefited from unsponsored players choosing to use their paddles for free. Top singles players Hunter Johnson and Chris Haworth used the Paddletek Bantam TKO-CX, and several players without paddle sponsors turned to the JOOLA Pro IV and had success.
